the old north st. louis restoration group is sponsoring a series of free movie nights in october, with a giant inflatable screen provided by frontyard features. i must say that old north is my second favorite neighborhood in the city, love to benton park, but first in terms of the pioneering, progressive spirit of residents. when adam and i bought our house three and a half years ago, we considered old north, but ended up in benton park instead.
it's awesome to see what's happening with the crown square development. i have had an eye on the pedestrian mall for 5 years now, since i first began photographing in north city. i always fantasized about it actually being something one day.
anyway, go check out the goonies tomorrow night. and take a look at all of the action in old north. be inspired.
my posts have been picture-free for too long! have you visited the light project yet? it's AWESOME. so awesome, in fact, that adam and i felt the need to stop and visit every evening when we went out four weekends in a row. chorus, by artists rainer kehres and sebastian hungerer, transformed the old burned out church on spring near the contemporary art museum into a community-lit beauty. all of the lamps that adorn the church's empty roof were donated by st. louisans. to see just who donated, check out the lamp collection blog. it will be lighting up what is otherwise a fairly desolate block for only another week or two.

and another image of my hubby as we left wasabi's sushi eating contest in which one of these years i will get around to participating...

if you're looking for something to do today (lots of posts seem to begin this way!) check out the street art fair at our fabulous neighbor, the venice cafe, starting at 2 p.m. if you're visiting our site, chances are you have already been there (unless you're from somewhere else). this is an excuse to come back and visit, not that you need one. there is frequently new art at the cafe itself- we always see jeff working on something when we're walking the giganto puppies. the latest project-in-the-works is an amazing industrial something-cum-bench which will soon be a gorgeously mosaicked place to rest your derriere.
stay tuned in the next few weeks! we'll be shooting andrea and gerrit's big day october 4th at world's fair pavillion in forest park and lumiere place. we'll also have mallorie and adam's e-shoot the next weekend (fabulous art deco themed wedding to follow next september at the missouri botanical gardens) and carrie and brent's e-shoot the weekend after that! brent was ben's best man (of ben and laura fame). carrie and brent got engaged the same weekend ben and laura got married and already had their date set and fabulous venue selected, the magic chef mansion, a WEEK later!
also stay tuned for our interview in PDNedu. only five years ago, adam and i were excited to read PDNedu while we attended grad school at mizzou. it's pretty awesome to be appearing on those pages such a short(ish) time later!
p.s. in case you ever wonder why we include so many links in our posts, it's because it helps with search engine rankings.
Yay! More pictures!
(09.21.08)Thank you so much for the gift card! I can't wait to put it to use. I have no excuse for my delayed thank you other than i've been super busy with school and work (though that isn't really an excuse!). Looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks!

tomorrow night is the great forest park balloon race opener, the balloon glow. it's an awesome event that will be held this year in central field from 7-8:30 p.m. be there or be square. the actual race will be saturday from 12-6:30.
if you ever have the opportunity to take a hot air balloon ride, it's one of the most peaceful experiences you will ever have (landing aside). adam and i were fortunate enough to get free rides during the show-me state games while we were at mizzou. i'll have to dig up some of our photos.
Please pardon the interruption of the STLove Wedding Hunt flow. For many of us, especially us local to St. Louis, this morning's news of Anheuser-Busch going the way of Belgium was, if not a shock, then a finalized disappointment.
I posted a piece of my mind at iReport.com this morning, which has since been highlighted on CNN.com's homepage: There Goes the Neighborhood. It starts like this...
"The tussle has ended for superiority in the world beer brewing business. And I've had a front row seat for it.
Really. Front row seat.
I live across the street from Anheuser-Busch, the self-proclaimed King of Beers. It's outside my bedroom window, my living room window, my front door.
On any given morning"...(read on at CNN.com)
Leave a comment with this blog entry -- and/or with the full story at CNN. Give up some love to The Brewery, STL, beer, Dalmatians... Tell people how you feel about this 156-year-old icon of red, white and blue making this decision. What do you think?
And give a look at the CNN.com article posted this afternoon -- Foreign-owned Bud a wound to Americana -- which cites me and my iReport. That article is accepting comments, too.

You almost made me regret my decision to become a metallurgist instead of a civil/architectural with those links, Becca. Historic preservation is a little dream hobby I have a goal of participating more fully in one day soon. I am scouting out the groups here in Houston already, but I don't feel they are nearly as strong as the ones in STL. Maybe I can help them get there....???
